Neighboring the Christian country of Armenia, in the north-west, has brought about an undeniably rich cultural dialogue and interrelation between the history of Iran and Armenia. The Armenian Apostolic ensembles in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran testify to this reality. The remarkable architectural design, as well as the decorations of Saint Thaddeus (dating back to the 7th century AD) and Saint Stepanos (7th century AD), Monasteries as well as the Chapel of Dzor Dzor (14th century AD) reflect the Armenian culture, coming down a line of centuries. The ensemble was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
