Shahr-i Sokhta (#1456)

UNESCO Iran attractions Sistan va Baluchestan Shahr- i Sokhta

The remains of an ancient city in the Sistan and Baluchistan province of Iran tells the story of the development of complex societies with the transformation of villages into cities, from 3200 BC until 1800 BC. Thanks to its location along important trade routes, the Shahr-i Sokhta (meaning the Burnt City) went through important social-cultural achievements, which can be observed in the layout of the city and remains of its mudbrick structures. In 2014, Shahr-i Sokhta was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
